A Journey of Faith ... A Brief History Thus Far |

|
The Rev. Frederick G. Gotwald and his wife, being conscious of the steady and
persistent growth of the communities of Elmwood and East York and the need of a
church in the midst of these communities, decided to undertake the
responsibility of developing a ministry of the Gospel here.
Dr. Gotwald had the foresight and vision to see the opportunity awaiting the Church in this field, and prepared to present the project to the proper agencies of the United Lutheran Church in America. He envisioned a small Sunday School growing into a mighty congregation of friendly worshipers. That was 1926.
The adventure of planting and growing a congregation involved the support and effort of many dedicated Christians and groups. With assistance from other congregations, seminarians, mission boards and local Christians of devotion, it started. Through the years it has been its faith in Jesus Christ and its response to the Great Commission that has led Advent to grow in discipleship, financial sharing and facility size. In recent years of ministry development and an ever increasingly mobile community, Advent’s faith and commitment to mission has resulted in a worshipping fellowship that represents various communities and school districts. It is experienced by visitors as being Biblically rooted in its worship and especially strong in its educational, youth and musical ministries.
Its current intentional focus is in developing a comprehensive outreach ministry to the unchurched and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who have no previous background in the Christian faith. It is to this adventure of creating history that we solicit your prayers and welcome your efforts. |
